We congratulate the newly elected governors for breaking the barriers and shattering the glass ceiling. This is an indication that Kenyans are making a shift from the patriarchal underpinnings that have long undermined prospects of women’s leadership in social, economic and political spaces.

The increased presence of female leadership at all levels of decision making is critical to advancing gender justice and equality, thereby furthering economic, social and political progress for all. Having women in leadership ensures that laws and decisions are more inclusive, representative and takes diverse views into account.
