Anchored under Addressing Violence Against Women And Girls Program area, the position seeks to ensure survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) are supported through the provision of free survivor-friendly, survivor-centered Psychosocial services. support services. The position will also involve responding to Survivors’ needs remotely through our Toll-free lines as and when required.
JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Lead Counselor -, the project counselor will be responsible for the provision of psychosocial support services and case management of GBV survivors. These services include trauma counseling, individual & group therapy, referring survivors to other support services, and ensuring proper documentation of survivor intake, diagnosis, needs assessments, survivor’s care plans, monitoring survivor’s well-being, and generation of reports on care and support offered. The counselor will also be responsible for training case managers and other stakeholders on basic counseling skills and survivor-centered approaches to respond to cases of GBV within the project areas.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Direct Counseling:
- Providing professional individual therapy sessions to survivors through a survivor-centred approach
- Conducting group therapy sessions for survivors to share experiences, build support networks, and learn coping mechanisms.
- Offering crisis intervention for immediate emotional support in emergency situations through the CREAW toll-free.
2. Assessment and Case Management:
- Conducting thorough assessments to understand the survivor’s needs, including the nature of the violence, emotional state, and existing support systems for the survivor.
- Developing and implementing individualized care plans based on the survivor’s unique needs.
- Coordinate safe and multi-sectoral services through referral, to other services like legal aid, medical care, shelters, and community support groups
- Maintain confidential individual files for survivors, monitor service provision, and ensure that survivors under CREAWs support receive all the care and support needed.
- Provision of psychosocial activities at CREAW’s satellite office in Kibera and remotely to other CREAWs counties of operation based on participatory community assessments.
- Maintaining and updating accurate, complete, valid, and timely data in CREAW’s GBV database on a regular basis.
- Preparing – relevant reports regarding the CREAW’s psychosocial activities, and beneficiary databases.
3. Capacity Development:
- Provide technical support to – case officers directly involved with the psychosocial and care for GBV survivors.
- Monitor and strengthen case management processes, through mentoring and on-the-job training support to interns and volunteers.
- Provide guidance regarding psychosocial activities to partners and case officers to ensure all project activities meet best practice standards
4. Outreach and Community Engagement:
- Facilitating community wellness conversations during Psychosocial Aid clinics and outreaches.
- Participate in planning and delivering community and other professionals’ training on survivor-centered approaches for GBV prevention and response.
5. Coordination:
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with – stakeholders, including service providers, community members & leaders, consortium members, and other CREAW team members to enhance multi-agency and multi-sectoral cooperation and coordination on response activities and provision of quality support services
- Participate in case conferences and support GBV coordination meetings with partners and community members
6. Staff Management and Development:
- Ensuring that all frontline staff participate in debriefing and professional supervision.
- Fulfill any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualification and Skills required:
- Minimum of Degree in Counselling and/or Psychology. –
- Must be a member of the Kenya Counselling and Psychological Association (KCPA) in good standing and the Counsellors and Psychologist Board (CPB)
- Minimum 3 years of direct psychosocial/counseling experience with a reputable agency; experience working with survivors of violence/trauma-informed practice approach preferred.
- A clear understanding of gender, abuse of power, and issues surrounding Gender-based violence.
- Able to maintain confidentiality, medical ethics, and respect for clients at all times.
- Experience in participatory techniques and community mobilization
- Able to lead, train, supervise, facilitate, and motivate GBV case workers in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful, and supportive manner.
- Positive, highly motivated, innovative, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Able to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining attention to quality and detail.
- Strong knowledge of computer applications, including MS Word and Excel.
- Able to meet deadlines.
- Fluency in English/ Kiswahili, including writing clear and concise reports.
- Ability to contribute to the overall objectives, mission, and goals of CREAW operations
