In Keiyo sub-county, Moses Kiprono, a concerned parent, has observed the distressing prevalence of early pregnancies among young girls. He attributes this troubling trend to parental negligence and the grip of poverty. Moses sheds light on the exploitation faced by underprivileged girls, who are often enticed into risky relationships with Boda Boda riders, offering meager tokens and gifts in exchange for sexual favors.

Acknowledging the urgent need for change, Moses highlights the positive impact of the Imarisha Msichana program by CREAW and FAWE. This program has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between cultural practices and the demands of the modern world. Previously, young girls were forced into early marriages, a practice now recognized as detrimental. The knowledge imparted through these training sessions has effectively educated the community, parents, and teachers on raising teenagers and promoting age-appropriate sexual and reproductive health.

Moses proudly notes the substantial reduction in teen pregnancies within the region since the implementation of educational programs and trainings. Encouragingly, there has been a notable increase in the number of girls who return to school after giving birth, a marked departure from previous years.

In light of these promising results, Moses calls upon all stakeholders to take proactive measures by ensuring effective follow-up in areas where interventions have been previously implemented. Sustained efforts and engagement are crucial to achieving lasting success in combating teen pregnancies in the region.
